Clearwater, FL – Aug. 09, 2022 – WPS | Washington Professional Systems, a national audiovisual technology integrator, recently debuted a new Soundscape immersive audio sound system from d&b Audiotechnik at Calvary Church in Clearwater, FL. The audio system, one of the first of its kind to be installed in a house of worship in Florida, was designed and engineered by WPS to replace an older, distributed array mono system that delivered inconsistent quality from seat-to-seat and had poor coverage throughout the sanctuary.

d&b’s Soundscape En-Scene audio system was chosen to solved the acoustic challenges of Calvary’s sanctuary, which is a traditional fan-shaped auditorium with minimal raked seating. This style of venue allows for more seating options of congregants, but creates inconsistent listening environments for both attendees and stage members. Soundscape En-Scene’s object-based, immersive sound technology uses advanced sound processing to individually time-align input sources to each speaker within each of the system arrays. This allows listeners in any location of the sanctuary to receive a spatially accurate audio picture that does not rely on the symmetry or location of the left or right speakers.

“Soundscape has the ability to make just about any space sound amazing” said Keith Neubert, Executive Director of Engineered Systems for WPS. “The En-Scene algorithms help create a level of immersion for congregants that makes them feel like they’re part of a special experience, every single time.”

Calvary Church in Clearwater is led by Senior Pastor Dr. Willy Rice and has over 150 years of history in the region. Founded in 1866 as Midway Baptist Church, Calvary was the first church in Clearwater and the first Baptist church in Pinellas County, FL. The original church was housed in a small log cabin in what would become the Clearwater cemetery. After moving to Downtown Clearwater and making its home there for over 75 years, Calvary began construction in 1999 on the McMullen Booth Road campus where its members have called home since 2005.
