Creating an Atmosphere sounds as good as it looks

Cactus Club Cafe’s new Downtown Miami location brings the brand’s elevated dining experience to the heart of the city. To complement the restaurant’s carefully designed interiors and energetic atmosphere, Washington Professional Systems implemented an integrated audiovisual system that delivers immersive sound, flexible video distribution, and intuitive control without distracting from the space itself.

The project required technology capable of supporting the changing energy of the restaurant throughout the day—from background music and everyday dining to evening entertainment, presentations, and special events.

Compact Sound with Serious Performance

A key element of the audio system is d&b audiotechnik’s installation-focused xS-Series. Ultra-compact 44S loudspeakers were selected to provide clear, controlled coverage while maintaining a discreet presence within the architecture. Their flush-mountable design and rotatable 90° x 30° dispersion allowed the system to direct sound precisely where it was needed.

The 44S loudspeakers are supported by a compact 12S-SUB, adding depth and low-frequency impact without requiring a large enclosure. Designed specifically for fixed installations, the 12S-SUB uses a 12-inch neodymium driver to deliver strong bass performance from a space-conscious cabinet.

A d&b 5D four-channel Dante amplifier provides networked amplification for the xS-Series system, helping deliver consistent, carefully controlled performance within a compact installation platform.

Additional QSC loudspeakers and subwoofers extend coverage into other areas of the venue, while Q-SYS processing and amplification provide centralized audio management. A Shure SLX-D wireless microphone system gives the restaurant added flexibility for announcements, presentations, and hosted events.

Video Designed Around the Space

The video system combines commercial LG displays, a Panasonic laser projector, and a Da-Lite motorized projection screen to support a variety of content throughout the venue.

WyreStorm AV-over-IP encoders, decoders, and network control allow video sources to be distributed to multiple destinations over the network. This gives the team the flexibility to route programming to the appropriate displays without relying on a rigid, point-to-point system.

Electric Mirror display covers further integrate the technology into the interior design, allowing screens to remain visually unobtrusive when they are not the focus of the space.

Simple, Centralized Control

At the center of the system is a Q-SYS Core 8 Flex network processor. The platform brings audio processing, system scripting, Dante connectivity, and user control together within a unified environment.

An iPad-based roaming control interface allows authorized staff to manage key system functions from around the restaurant. This simplifies everyday operation and helps the team adapt the atmosphere as the venue transitions between dining periods, entertainment, and private events.

Technology That Supports the Experience

The completed system brings audio, video, networking, and control together in a solution designed around the character of Cactus Club Cafe Miami. Compact loudspeakers preserve clean sightlines, networked signal distribution provides operational flexibility, and centralized control makes sophisticated technology easier for the staff to use.

The result is an audiovisual environment that supports the restaurant’s energy without competing with its design—delivering clarity, impact, and flexibility throughout the guest experience.
